Wealth is the ability to experience and enjoy life fully. Money has no value, it is our thinking that places a value on it. It is possible to enjoy the benefits of a good life not because you are wealthy, but because you have learnt the lessons what it takes to be wealthy. Many people are not prepared to put the effort into the right things, put their effort into the wrong things and then go ahead to justify their circumstances.
Some people think having money doesn’t make you happy. But money was not the problem for wealthy people who are unhappy. When emotions take over thinking becomes cloudy, fuzzy and unclear. It is their thinking that creates a problem for them. They need to think through their values in life to understand themselves and what makes them happy.
Often it is portrayed that poorer peoples are happier more content people. Really? Is it a question of acceptance of below standard living, rather than a better way of living? It is a question of belief systems. We need to question our belief systems to find out if they are serving our best interests.
We are often not aware how much thinking is involved in creating our habits. These habits can be good, but these habits can also be bad. Either way it takes a lot of work and thinking to justify these habits. So next time you think
idealistic thinking believes the world is fair. World history shows it is not. It takes a lot of hard work to be successful, It is no different for poorer peoples. They have to work very hard too but they get a different reward.
Next time you are thinking I’d rather be poor but happy, Remember you can be happy and wealthy. It’s a question of how you think, that makes the difference.
Strange isn’t it how society prefers to keep a status quo. We need to be encouraged to challenge our thinking, challenge thinking of others, and challenge thinking of power brokers. This is a skill to be learnt. It is a skill that needs to be developed, learnt, practised and cherished.
Challenging our thinking. Why do we believe what we do? Why do we buy into others’ opinions of us? Is it what we really think or have we have taken on messages and beliefs of a culture or system we live in. If we change our thoughts, what happens then? What will change? How will it change?
Experience does not lead to learning, Reflection does. We do not want to get caught up in a rut of reinforcing negative messages and thoughts that have no real value in our lives. Thoughts are powerful, so be careful what you think. Use this new skill wisely for the Chinese philosophy says ‘ beware not to antagonise people with pride, no one likes a show off’. You can achieve wealth but become mindful with it. Think about your behaviour and what you want in life. You can achieve wealth but don’t lose humility.
Athletes’ practice, practice, practice, they have a discipline and that discipline is focused on basics. These basics continuous practice, huge discipline, consistency over time they become champions.
You can be a champion and still be wealthy, mindful, thoughtful of others and enjoy life fully.
