What Does Living Consciously Mean?

Times are changing and the first  conscious living fair www.consciouslivingworldsfair.com/about.html    is taking place in Chicago in August 2014.   Coincidentally this was the place the Parliament of the World’s Religions was formed in 1883 and the birth of Yoga in the West World was borne.

A community of people collectively around the world are raising awareness and expanding mind body and spiritual values.  This first fair will showcase over 200 exhibitors including complementary medicines, herbal products, massage, meditation, nutrition, natural therapies, organic health, raw foods, personal development, Yoga, spiritual growth.

What Does Living a Conscious Life Mean?

Conscious living is an umbrella term for the ability to focus our attention,  live a healthy life, a good life, a life that has purpose, connects with a greater universal consciousness, gets off auto pilot and brings awareness to all that you do living consciously.  It’s about not getting distracted in a distracting world.  It’s about  training the mind in practising mindfulness training at home and in the workplace.  Practising mindfulness or meditation decreases stress, improves focus and concentration and develops better mental wellbeing.

Living a conscious life frees the mind so you can find an inner peace.  Living a conscious life makes a conscious effort to consume fresh,  wholesome, nutritious, life giving foods.  Living a conscious life treads gently on the planet caring for its flora and fauna and ditching a toxic lifestyle.

Change starts with you. Living with awareness in a state of health and balance you can more readily fulfil your life’s purpose.  By learning to become more present comes greater engagement, less stress, higher degree of energy and finding more meaning in life.  It’s a way to become proactive in our lives not reactive.  It’s about becoming present in every moment.  It’s a way to finding more happiness in all the things we do.

Conscious Leadership

Conscious leadership is gaining momentum.  Becoming a conscious leader means bringing out the best in people, embracing values of people first before profits, conscious working, and moving towards living with greater integrity.  Many organisations around the world including Whole Foods, Starbucks, Southwest Airlines, Patagonia and some executives within the Westpac Group are adopting similar models.    Projects such as Humanity in Business http://www.cionetwork.com.au/page/humanity-in-business/ focused conscious leadership and Big Hearted Business http://bigheartedbusiness.clarebowditch.com/about-bhb/  set up to teach creative people about business and business people about creativity are innovating ways we interact.

Recent research (Brown 2011) shows how leaders and change agents with a highly developed, meaning making system engage better in complex change initiatives.  These conscious raising activities are changing our approach to living both consciously and sustainably.

Conscious Living with Ayurveda and Yoga

Ayurveda and Yoga are complementary sciences.  In Ayurveda, an ancient healing and medicine system, body, mind and living consciously work together.   They work together maintaining a healthy lifestyle, diet, proper use of behaviours, mind qualities, senses, herbal remedies, massage  and exercise.  Ayurveda is the art and science of conscious living and comes from Ayur meaning life and Veda meaning Knowledge or Science.  Yoga is the state of conscious awareness and according to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras shows a path to living consciously.
