The world in the 21st century is rapidly innovating yet some things remain timeless, like ancient medical healing systems.   While people are opting for goods and trendy new health ideas as suggested above that include eco-friendly, recycled or vegan, the implications are that people are becoming more aware of buying  natural, quality foods from farmers markets, watching their diets and food intake and getting out into the fresh air and exercising.

On the other hand while some workplaces are opting to offer free health seminars and 2 pieces of fruit per day in the office,  there is still a major increase in the prevalence of chronic health conditions in Australia.   Currently in Australia approximately 70% of the Federal Health budget is spent on diagnosing and managing chronic conditions.   Yet only 1.8% of the health budget is allocated to preventative needs.

Currently there are 35 corporate health providers in Australia servicing about 500,000 employees onsite which is about 5% of the workforce.  What about preventative health services for the other 95% of the workforce.   There is a push for corporate wellness programs  to identify and intervene to impact outcomes in preventative health.

There have been over 600 studies over the past two decades published and a number of experts in corporate health published 9 meta analyses citing almost 700 studies which demonstrates to the efficacy of corporate wellness programs.  However the expectation for standardisation of health programs has proved difficult.

The focus on workplace health and wellness preventation is aimed at reducing risk of chronic lifestyle diseases and therefore a decrease in Government health costs.

As we see from the headlines of this article the main push for the burgeoning of healthy lifestyles is coming from business innovation and from various individual  communities.  People are interested in natural health and moving to eating more natural foods and living holistically.  One of the growth areas emerging in health  is ancient healing medical systems.

Ancient healing systems have largely been under the radar for the past century  with the rapid rise of technology, electronic industry,  innovative marketing techniques, an abundance of products and services and a highly mobile, fast paced lifestyle.   These changes in eating habits and behaviours have taken a toll on the health and lifestyle of people and has lead to a high incidence of lifestyle chronic diseases  such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes and cancer.

Ancient medical healing systems such Ayurveda and Tibetan Medicine have a different philosophy towards health based on ancient teachings primarily focused on identifying the root cause of an illness and treating the whole person.

The ancient medical science of Ayurveda has been continuously practised for several thousand years.  Ayurved helps people achieve a healthy balance through diet, herbal supplements, massage, physical therapies, gentle cleanses, detoxification therapies and rejuvenation practice.

It is a holistic medicine which treats the whole person.  Its aim is to prevent illness, restore balance, heal and increase vigour and vitality using natural methods stimulating the body’s natural healing powers.
